Findlay Wins Fifth Presidents' Cup

Presidents' Cup Final Standings

Indianapolis, Ind.- The University of Findlay department of athletics has captured its' fifth Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Presidents' Cup as the league office unveiled the final standings on Thursday, May 16. This marks the fifth time in six years that the Oilers have won the cup.
The G-MAC Presidents' Cup is awarded each year to the member institution that collects the highest tally of points based on regular season winning percentage (standings) or individual meet results (sports with no conference regular season schedule) through the athletic year. The Oilers secured 189.0 points in the standings for the 2023-24 season, two points higher than Ashland University who finished runner-up.

"We are thrilled to bring the Great Midwest Presidents' Cup back to Findlay," commented Director of Athletics, Jim Givens. "We are fortunate to have exceptional student-athletes, coaches, athletic trainers, and administrators who embody all the qualities necessary to build and maintain a culture of success. Their commitment to excellence both on and off the field has been exemplary, showcasing our commitment to excellence in athletics."

This year, Findlay brought home six conference titles throughout the year and secured The Cup thanks to a furious push by the Oilers' spring sports. Through the fall, UF sat in fourth place in the standings at 53.5 points, trailing Walsh, Northwood, and Ashland, although less than ten points separated the top six schools in the standings.

In the winter, the comeback was on as Findlay moved into second place behind Ashland. That season brought the first conference titles of the year for the Orange and Black as both men's and women's swimming & diving earned championships. The Oilers jumped up the standings, then with 98 points, but still trailed the Eagles by 18 points.

Spring brought an onslaught of success for Findlay as both men's and women's golf picked up conference titles, making up seven of those 18 points. Solid regular-seasons by men's and women's tennis, followed by conference titles by men's and women's track & field gained more ground and, at the conclusion of those events, UF trailed by one in the standings. Women's lacrosse tied things up and softball gave the Oilers the lead, scoring ten points to take a four point lead. Baseball's effort to grab the third seed in the conference tournament sealed the deal, capping a furious comeback.

Findlay has now won the Presidents' Cup five times, the most in the history of the G-MAC.
