Kaley Holmstrom took fifteenth place in the 200-yard individual medley on the first day of the 2014 NCAA Division II national championship, which took place on Wednesday, March 12 in Geneva, Ohio.
Holmstrom crossed the line at 2:05.47 and will earn All-American honors in the process.
Ashleigh Weddington became a qualifier when she placed in the top 20 during yesterday's diving pre-qualification meet. Today, Weddington took eighteenth place on the 3 meter board with a score of 396.20, which set a career high and was just off the school record.
"We had a great first day," head coach Andrew Makepeace explained. "Kaley had a really solid swim, just off her lifetime best and school record from a month ago. It was great to see her knock off some racing rust and should propel her to swim fast this weekend. Ashleigh had a really great day. It's very tough to have energy after such a long day yesterday, but she pushed through and was awesome. A day off should get her ready for 1 meter on Friday. We are going to have a great week based on what we've seen so far."
