Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay wrestling team was back in action on Saturday, Nov. 16 for the Findlay Open. As the hosts of the event, the Roughnecks had 20 athletes competing against 23 other programs. Findlay saw the day finish with two athletes finishing in the top six of their respective brackets. Findlay junior
Billy Smith would finish in sixth place in the 125 division, as he started the day with a loss to Allen Calderon (Indiana Tech) by a 6-5 decision. After this loss, however, Smith would rattle off five straight wins for a spot in the fifth-place match. This win streak started with a 15-3 major decision victory over Caleb Thomas (Campbellsville), followed by a win by way of tech fall over Orion Wilson (GVSU). He would then go on to defeat Giovanni Diaz (Glenville State), along with victories by decision over Luke Acuna (Ashland) and
Wyatt Nemitz (Findlay) to round out his wins. He would fall via no contest to Braden Hahlen (Lake Erie) in the fifth-place match.

Also with a strong showing for the Roughnecks was grad student
Logan Sanom. He would start his day with a win by fall over Cody Martin (McKendree). He would add two more victories with a tech fall over Randall Slinger (Campbellsville) and a 7-4 decision over Maddox Simcoe (GVSU). Sanom would finish his day with a loss in the semifinal to Cody Peterson (McKendree) by a 4-3 decision and an 8-2 loss also by decision in the third-place match to Dajun Johnson (Wisconsin-Parkside) to finish in fourth place.
Findlay will be back on the mats on Saturday, Nov. 23 for the Jim Koch Wisconsin Open in Kenosha, Wis.
