Men's Golf Defends Home Turf, Winning in Playoff at the Doc Spragg Fall Invite

Findlay, Ohio – On Tuesday, Oct. 14, the University of Findlay men's golf team delivered a clutch performance at the 2025 Doc Spragg Fall Invite, held at Findlay Country Club. On a perfect fall day with temperatures in the mid-70s, the Oilers claimed the team title after two playoff holes decided the winner. This is the first time that Findlay has won the Doc Spragg, an event that debuted in the fall of 2018.

As a team, Findlay posted a score of 293 (+5) in its' final 18 holes, putting up an 859 (-5) for the 54-hole tournament. Missouri-St. Louis, which started the day three shots back, shot 290 as a team and pulled even with the Oilers at the top. Both teams went back out on the ninth hole to play a winner-take-all playoff with all five players in the lineup counting their score.

After tying the hole the first time through, teams headed back to the tee for a second attempt. Findlay made it through with four pars and a bogey while Missouri-St. Louis' squad made four pars and a double-bogey.

Just getting into the playoff took a gutsy closing stretch from freshman Luke Siefker. Three-over through his first 12 holes, the Dublin, Ohio native caught fire, making three birdies and an eagle in his last six holes including birdies on his final two. He would finish the tournament in a tie for third place with a 213 (-3) after shooting 70 (-2) in his final round.

Also earning all-tournament honors was senior Zach Miller who climbed five spots with his round of 72 (E) on Tuesday. He ended with a three-round total of 214 (-2) to finish tied for fifth.

The Oilers also had a "B Team" and "C Team" competing at the event. Findlay (B) finished the event in seventh place while Findlay (C) ended in 14th.

Tied for the low round of the day in the field, junior Tyler Brockwell, playing on Findlay (C), posted a 69 (-3) and ultimately finished the event in T30 at 220 (+4). Brockwell's final round was highlighted by an albatross on the par five 18th hole. The Pickerington, Ohio native hit his second shot with a three wood from 275 yards, bouncing the shot up short and right of the green, eventually trickling on and dropping in the bottom of the cup.
