Day Three Surge Puts Findlay on Brink of Championship Sweep

Canton, Ohio - The University of Findlay continued its dominance on Thursday, Feb. 12 at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference/Mountain East Conference Championships, piling up wins, NCAA provisional marks and a relay sweep to surge even further ahead at C.T. Branin Natatorium.

By the end of Day 3, the Oilers' women had expanded their lead to 1,427 points, while the men pushed their margin to 1,487, setting the stage for a strong finish as both teams pursue another conference title.

Women's Highlights

The Oilers controlled the 100 backstroke with sophomore Olivia Scheibelhoffer winning in 55.78, hitting an NCAA B standard. Freshman Ava Shardo and senior Troie Grubbs added more top-seven finishes, while freshman Hannah Nagel won the B-final.

Findlay swept the top two spots in the 100 breaststroke as freshman Helmi Kakela won the title in 1:01.23, breaking the meet and school records and hitting the NCAA B standard. Senior Katie Susi finished second in 1:01.92, also under the meet record and beneath the NCAA B cut.

Senior Emily Mears-Bentley collected another individual win in the 200 butterfly, posting 2:04.63 for an NCAA B standard. Freshman Alex DeCarlo finished second in 2:07.23, while freshman Ava Shardo added an eighth-place finish.

It the 500 freestyle, senior Macee Reckard placed fourth in 5:10.41, while sophomores Sophie Busby and Emma Montgomery also scored inside the top eight. Sophomore Michelle Jativa won the B-final in 5:17.27, contributing valuable points.

The women capped the night with a victory in the 800 freestyle relay. The team of Reckard, Kakela, Grubbs and Mears-Bentley touched in 7:33.83, nearly five seconds ahead of the field and securing Findlay's third relay win of the meet.

Men's Highlights

Sophomore Sebastian Dav Camacho opened another big night with a commanding win in the 500 freestyle, clocking 4:22.55 — breaking the meet record and finishing well under the NCAA B standard. Senior Matteo Filippi and sophomore Leland Woeste followed in third and fourth, giving the Oilers four of the top five spots.

In the 100 backstroke, senior Bruce Keener II claimed the conference title in 47.38, earning another NCAA B standard. Freshman Stanislav Lohvynenko (50.12) and sophomore Peter Helmuth (50.24) placed third and fourth, continuing Findlay's dominance in the stroke events.

The Oilers placed three swimmers in the top four of the 100 breaststroke, led by sophomore Arnaldo Cezario Guimarães, who won in 55.38. Sophomore Edu Trejos tied for fourth in 55.99, and junior Sebastian Washington placed seventh.

Findlay delivered another statement performance in the 200 butterfly, where Camilo Marrugo won the event in 1:46.47, hitting the NCAA B provisional mark. Freshman Juan David Blandon Torres took second in 1:48.62, also good for a B standard, and junior David Schlor completed the podium sweep by finishing third.

In the men's 800 freestyle relay, the team of Santiago Arteaga Restrepo, Sebastian Washington, Camdyn Sever and Nick Beratz secured the victory in 6:45.64, stretching the team's lead heading into championship Friday.

The Oilers look to secure a pair of titles tomorrow evening.
