Women’s Tennis Stays Hot, Wins Third Straight at Indy

Indianapolis, Ind. - The No. 16 University of Findlay women's tennis team was back in action on Tuesday, Feb. 17 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Oilers faced the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds. The Oilers ended the day with a dominant 6-1 victory.

The Oilers won two out of the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. Anamarija Kovacevic and Audrey Ouellet secured the No. 1 spot victory with a 6-2 win over Magda Kornijczuk and Maelys Thiery-James. Ivanova Lucero and Maria Valentina Salek Rivero also won their No. 2 match with a score of 6-2 over Liza Simak and Silvia Zappoli from Indianapolis. 

The Oilers continued their dominance in the singles play by winning five out of the six singles matches. Of the five singles wins, only one match had to be taken to a third set to decide the winner.  

At the No. 1 spot, Anamarija Kovacevic won in three sets with scores of 6-3, 4-6, and 6-3 to secure the point for the Oilers. Maria Batinic only needed two sets to defeat Jimena De Pablos Hernando with two 6-3 set wins. The No. 3 match was dominated by Maria Valentina Salek Rivero who won 6-1 in both sets to win another point for the Oilers. Audrey Ouellet continued the domination and also took the point in two sets. Ivanova Lucero secured a 6-3 and 6-1 win in the No. 5 match to finish out the day for the Oilers. 

This is the first time the women's tennis team has defeated the University of Indianapolis. The Oilers improved to 4-1 with a victory in today's match. The women's tennis team will be back in action on Sunday, March 1. The Oilers will travel to Edinboro, Pennsylvania to take on IUP.
