Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay wrestling team went on the road to take on Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) rival  and No. 7 ranked Tiffin University on Friday, February 6. Despite picking up three bonus-point victories, the Roughnecks fell to the Dragons by a final score of 29-17.

The dual began with a top-ten showdown at 125 pounds. Findlay's #10 Billy Smith battled hard against #3 Anthony Aniciete but dropped a tight 4-2 decision. Following a loss at 133, the Roughnecks sparked a comeback in the middle weights.

At 141 pounds, Ashton Anderson provided a jolt of energy for the home crowd, needing just 51 seconds to pin Tiffin's Bret Minnick. Micah Cottrell kept the momentum rolling at 149 pounds, dominating Peyton Schafer from the opening whistle to secure a 16-1 technical fall (7:00).

The middle of the lineup featured another marquee ranked matchup at 165 pounds, where Findlay's #11 Gary Nilson squared off against the #1 ranked wrestler in the country, Nolan Gessler. In a defensive battle, Nilson held his own but ultimately fell by a 4-1 decision. Donavyn Watts also faced a ranked opponent at 174 pounds, dropping a 10-5 decision to #12 Emilio Arellano.

Findlay closed the night on a high note in the heavyweight division. Ranked #10 nationally, Giulian Bodiu controlled his match against Richard Thornton before securing the fall at the 5:00 mark in the third period. That is the 15th pin of Bodiu's season which ties the single-season program record which was set in 1992 by Paul Perrine.

The Rougnecks are back in action on Sunday vs #10 Ashland University. That dual in Findlay begins at 1:00 pm.
