Findaly, Ohio — The No. 48 ranked University of Findlay men's tennis team secured a hard-fought 4-2 victory over Walsh University on Saturday afternoon to cap off a successful day for the Oilers at the Armstrong Complex Tennis Courts on Saturday, April 11. The Oilers are now 11-6 on the year and 6-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play.
Findlay gained the crucial early advantage by capturing the doubles point. Aleksander Ivancevic and Nicolo Lippolis made quick work of Ben Hoffmann and Nicolas Strohle at the No. 3 flight, winning 6-2. Soh Kuyama and Matthis Veniard then clinched the 1-0 team lead with a solid 6-3 win over Lukas Kohler and Ethan Milgan at No. 2 doubles. Walsh managed to salvage the top flight in a tight 7-6 tiebreaker win by Joan Dasi and Ross Trias Monells over Clement Andrieu and Grant Hawkins.
Singles play was a back-and-forth affair. Walsh got on the board when Ross Trias Monells defeated Soh Kuyama 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 flight. Findlay answered back at No. 6 singles, where Nicolo Lippolis earned a 6-3, 6-3 win against Kian Balali.
The Cavaliers temporarily tied the overall match at 2-2 after Joan Dasi defeated Runa Kagoshima 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. However, the Oilers' depth proved to be the difference-maker. Matthis Veniard put Findlay one point away from victory by taking down Ethan Milgan 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot.
Aleksander Ivancevic then delivered the decisive blow for the Oilers, clinching the 4-2 dual match victory with a hard-fought 6-4, 7-5 win over Lukas Kohler at No. 5 singles.
With the match decided, the No. 2 singles battle between Findlay's Clement Andrieu and Walsh's Nicolas Strohle was left unfinished early in the third set, with Andrieu having won the first set 6-4 before dropping the second 4-6.
Findlay is off for a week before heading to take on Tiffin University on Saturday, April 18.
