Owensboro, Ky. — The third-seeded and 48th-ranked University of Findlay men's tennis team opened its postseason run with a commanding 4-0 sweep over the sixth-seeded Cedarville University Yellow Jackets on Thursday morning in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship Quarterfinals at Centre Court.
With the victory, the regionally eighth-ranked Oilers advance to the semifinal round of the conference tournament, dominating across their lineup.
Findlay seized control of the match early by comfortably securing the doubles point. The No. 3 tandem of Aleksander Ivancevic and Nicolo Lippolis struck first, cruising to a 6-2 victory over Cedarville's Pedro Nogueira De Carvalho and Penn Morrison. Clement Andrieu and Grant Hawkins quickly mirrored that effort at the top flight, clinching the 1-0 advantage for the Oilers with a 6-2 win over Logan Dehaven and Roberto Esquivel.
Carrying the momentum into singles play, Findlay's middle and lower lineup delivered knockout blows to put the match away without dropping a single set.
Aleksander Ivancevic was the first to finish, pushing the team lead to 2-0 with a brisk 6-2, 6-2 victory over Alexander Rongos at the No. 5 flight. Runa Kagoshima followed shortly after, extending the lead to 3-0 by dismantling Logan Dehaven 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Matthis Veniard delivered the final clinching point for the Oilers at the No. 4 spot. Veniard controlled the pace against Pedro Nogueira De Carvalho, winning 6-3 in the first set before posting a 6-0 shutout in the second to seal the 4-0 team sweep.
The Oilers will look to keep their championship hopes alive as they prepare for the G-MAC Semifinals.
