Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay Department of Athletics has promoted
Eric Wymer to Director of Track & Field and Cross Country. Wymer has served as the head coach of the men's and women's cross country programs and as an assistant coach on the track & field staff since 2018.
"When this position opened up, we knew very quickly that we already had the successor in-house," said Director of Athletics Jim Givens. "Eric cares deeply for this university and his program and has a proven ability to recruit high-quality athletes who compete in their sport and compete in the classroom. Under his guidance, our cross country program has reached new heights, and I am confident in his ability to continue that success at the helm of our track & field program, as well."
Since taking over the cross country program in 2018, Wymer has built the Oilers into consistent conference and regional contenders. During his tenure, Findlay cross country student-athletes have earned 32 all-conference selections and nine all-region honors, alongside multiple individual national qualifiers.
Wymer guided the men's program to a historic breakthrough in 2024. The Oilers finished as G-MAC runners-up, took fifth at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional, and earned the first NCAA National Championship team berth in program history, placing 28th overall. That season featured standout Noah Fisher, who earned all-American honors and was named G-MAC Runner of the Year.
The women's program has seen steady progress under Wymer, securing program-best third-place G-MAC finishes in 2023 and 2025, as well as an eighth-place regional finish in 2025. His individual achievements on the women's side include coaching Gabrielle Lawrence to a national qualifier appearance in 2021Â after setting the school 6K record with a time of 21:29 at the regional meet.
Wymer's focus on academic excellence matches his teams' success on the course. In 2025, Elijah Hadler and Sarah Reinhart swept the G-MAC Elite 26 Awards for men's and women's cross country, an honor given to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative GPA at the conference championship.
