From 2020-2024, Niermann served on the campuses Non-Instructional Assessment Committee whose mission is identifying potential areas of improvement across different areas at Findlay. He also serves as a member of the NCBWA (National College Baseball Writers Association) and the D2SIDA Men's Basketball weekly regional rankings.

Before being hired to his current position, Niermann served as a graduate assistant in the media relations department at Findlay from 2013-15. During his time as a graduate assistant, Niermann headed up the media relations efforts for volleyball, cross country, track and field, and baseball.

Niermann graduated from Bluffton University in 2013 with degrees in business administration and sports management. While at Bluffton, Niermann was a four-year starter on the school's baseball team. He was named all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) each of those four years, three-time first-team, and was also tabbed as an ABCA all-Mideast region performer, including a Rawlings Gold Glove, in his final two seasons. Niermann currently ranks in the top-five in Bluffton history in multiple offensive categories. He also earned academic all-conference in each of his eligible seasons and was named the Distinguished Scholar, student who maintains the highest cumulative GPA over four years, in his sport management major.

In 2015, Niermann graduated with his masters in business administration from The University of Findlay.
