Box Score

The University of Findlay football team defeated Ashland University for the first time since 2006 as they claimed a 35-28 win over the Eagles on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Donnell Stadium.

The Oilers held a 28-13 lead in the fourth quarter, but the Eagles stormed back to tie the game at 28-28 with only 2:16 remaining in the game.  Findlay then marched the ball down the field and put themselves in a position to win the game.

After converting a fourth down play, the Oilers hurried to the line and spiked the ball with eight seconds left.  Junior quarterback Devontae Payne then dropped back to pass and found senior wide receiver Seth White in the corner of the end zone for the game-winning touchdown with only three ticks remaining in the game.

The Oilers once again used a dominant run game to control the ball as they racked up 488 total yards, which included 300 yards on the ground.  They possessed the ball for 34:40 and achieved 26 first downs in the win.

Sophomore running back Daiquone Ford rushed the ball 41 times for 186 yards and two scores while Payne threw for 173 yards and two scores.

Payne also rushed for 64 yards on 12 carries while freshman running back Anthony Linnear had five rushes for 37 yards and a score.

Junior wide receiver Lloyd Henry had three catches for 53 yards, senior tight end Jaryd Brown made three catches for 50 yards and White had three receptions for 42 yards and two touchdowns.

Junior defensive back Harold Jones-Quartey made ten tackles to go along with an interception while freshman defensive back Tory Clark had eight stops.

Senior linebacker Trevor Smith and junior defensive end Josh Lee each recorded a sack in the victory.

The Oilers, who are now 6-3 on the season with a 4-3 record in conference play, will play their final road game of the season next week when they face Malone University at noon in Canton, Ohio.
