The University of Findlay football team attacked the record book in their 47-7 win over Walsh University on Oct. 11 at Donnell Stadium. The victory, which snapped a two-game losing streak, gives the Oilers a 4-2 record on the season with a 3-2 mark in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

The Oilers set team records for most most first downs via the pass (21) and most passing yards in a game (456). They also got some stellar individual performances in the win as several of the Oilers established new school records.

Senior quarterback Verlon Reed completed 30-of-45 passing attempts for a school record 414 yards to lead the offense. He also threw for three touchdowns and ran for 26 more yards on the ground. His favorite target on the day was senior wide receiver Lloyd Henry, who set new school records for receptions (15) and receiving yards (202).

Reed's 414 passing yards eclipsed the record of 364, which was set by Billy Noonan against Ashland in 2008. Henry's 15 catches were two better than the previous record of 13, which was set by Derek Hutchinson against Tiffin in 1986.  His receiving yards total also bettered the old record setting mark of 195, which was accomplished by Mike Chambers against Ashland in 2008.

Freshman running back Chauncey Bridges rushed the ball 12 times for 67 yards while senior quarterback Mitchell Faine completed two passes for 42 yards and a score. Junior wide receiver Tim Szabo made five catches for 73 yards, red-shirt freshman receiver Darnell Fields had one catch for 54 yards, sophomore wide receiver Dylan Blunk made three catches for 49 yards and a score while Bridges also added 49 yards receiving in the win.

Sophomore kicker Tyler Bugeja connected on two fields, made five extra points and also rushed the ball in for a touchdown on a fake field goal play in the game.

Defensively, senior safety Harold Jones-Quartey had seven tackles while sophomore linebacker Myles Alexander made six stops and recorded two sacks in the win.

As a team, the Oilers rolled up 604 yards of total offense and limited the Cavaliers to a mere 134 yards.

The Oilers will prepare to face Northwood University next week. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in Midland, Mich.
