Gervais Shines as Oilers Roll Past Malone

The University of Findlay football team rolled to a 49-17 final over the Pioneers of Malone on Saturday, November 7 to improve their record to 5-5 overall and 4-5 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Sophomore quarterback Rhys Gervais had a historical day as he eclipsed a trio of Oilers' football records. In the first quarter, Gervais completed a 33-yard touchdown strike to senior Tim Szabo giving the quarterback 2,736 passing yards this season which launched him past the 2014 mark set by Verlon Reed (2,712).

A second-quarter touchdown pass from Gervais to sophomore Anthony Federico gave the sophomore quarterback 27 touchdown passes this season, breaking an 18 year record set in 1997 by Bo Hurley.

The final record came in the fourth quarter when Garvais completed his 211th pass this season, also passing the 2014 mark set by Verlon Reed.

In the game, the Oilers quarterback finished with 299 yards passing and three touchdowns.

Gervais' favorite target was Szabo who finished the game with six catches for 116 yards and a touchdown while sophomore Jason Moore also had a big game catching seven passes for 87 yards and a touchdown.

Leading the rushing attack and picking up the bulk of Findlay's carries was senior Daiquone Ford who had 54 yards on 18 carries including a pair of touchdowns.

The Oilers had 490 yards of total offense including 299 passing and 191i rushing.

On the defensive side of the ball, junior Myles Alexander led the way as he had 12 tackles, six of which were solo. Freshman Anthony Kastelic had eight solo tackles and finished with 10 total tackles.

Freshman defensive back Chiebuka Chukwuneke had a big day for the Oilers as he picked up five tackles and also had a pair of forced fumbles, one of which he picked up and returned to the end zone for a touchdown.

The Findlay defense was able to collect four sacks and seven tackles for loss.

The Oilers will play their final game of the season next Saturday, November 14 as they host Northen Michigan University in a game slated to begin a noon.
