Findlay Drops Two to Lake Erie to Begin GLIAC Play

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay baseball team hosted their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener vs. the Storm of Lake Erie College on Saturday, March 21. The first game was a 15-inning contest that the Oilers dropped 4-2 and Game 2 was a 6-0 loss for the home team. The pair of losses drops Findlay's record to 6-12 on the season and 0-2 in league play.

Game 1   Video Replay

The first contest of the day was a pitchers dual throughout as senior Jon Walker battled toe-to-toe with Russ Hogue. Lake Erie scored run in the second inning off Walker but that was all the scoring the Storm would get until the 13 innings later.

Findlay scored a single run in the bottom of the sixth inning when Josh Schwerer singled and advanced to second on a walk to Cameron Johnson. After a pop up, Austin Adams delivered a two out single that scored Schwerer and tied the game a 1-1.

Back and forth the teams went until the ninth inning when the Oilers, who struggled offensively to this point, had a chance to win the game. Findlay loaded the bases with one out needing just a run to win and a double-play ball ended the threat.

That was the best scoring chance the Oilers would see until the 15th.

Lake Erie scored three runs in the top of the 15th inning and it was too much for the Oilers to answer, although they did score one in the bottom half of the inning when Logan Harrah singled and scored Chase Goulette.

Schwerer, Goulette, Burkett each had two hits in the game while Schwerer and Goulette each scored a run.

Walker took the loss on the mound as he went 6.1 innings and allowed just one run. He struck out seven.

Game 2    Video Replay

Findlay dropped the second game of the day by a 6-0 final, a game in which the Oilers only collected two hits. Both of those hits came in the first inning.

Mason Meyberry took the loss on the mount and he pitched 6.1 innings, gave up five runs, and struck out six.

Findlay is back in action tomorrow, March 22, for the second double-header vs. Lake Erie. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
