Findlay Falls in Monday Doubleheader

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay baseball team dropped a pair of games vs. Northwood University on Monday, March 30. The losses drop the Oilers record to 6-17 overall and 1-7 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Game 1

In the first contest of the day, the third game of the four game series, the Oilers fell behind early and could not come back as they lost by a 7-2 final.

The Timberwolves scored three runs in the second and one in the third before Findlay finally scored their first run.

The fifth inning began with a single from Pete Burkett who moved to second on a passed ball. Following a single from Troy Merriman, Kevin Schrock singled to right, scoring Burkett and putting the Oilers down 4-1. The inning would end with two runners left on base, an area where the home team struggled as they left a total of eight runners on for the game.

NU answered the Oilers first run with three in the top of the sixth but Findlay did get a run in the bottom half of the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Logan Harrah pinch hit and singled and advanced to second on a walk to Peter Yorgen. Merriman singled and scored Harrah to cut the lead to 7-2, what would ultimately be the final.

Austin Rodesky took the loss on the mound and fell to 1-4. He pitched five and two-thirds innings and allowed seven runs, six earned, on six hits. He walked seven and struck out four.

Merriman led the offense with two hits and an RBI while Christion Smith, Harrah, Yorgen, Burkett, and Schrock each had one hit.

Game 2

In the final game of the series, the Timberwolves scored five runs in the top of the first and never looked back as they won by a final of 12-4.

The Oilers first run came in the fifth inning when Merriman singled and scored on a double from Jon Shollenberger.

They scored again in the seventh when Tyler Donaldson singled to right and advanced to third on an error. He scored on a ground ball by Schrock. As the inning continued, Josh Schwerer reached on an error and later came around to score on a wild pitch.

Findlay's final run came in the bottom of the eighth when Schwerer earned a bases loaded hit-by-pitch that scored Harrah.

Colin Gossard took the loss on the mound and dropped his record to 1-2. He threw three innings and gave up seven earned runs on seven hits. He walked two and struck out two.

The Oilers are back in action tomorrow at 3:00pm as they travel to Bowling Green for a non-conference matchup with the Falcons from the Division 1, Mid-American Conference.
