Findlay Drops Doubleheader at ODU

Columbus, OH – The University of Findlay baseball team traveled to the heart of Ohio to take on the Panthers of Ohio Dominican to begin their final Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) series. Findlay dropped both of Saturday, May 2nd's games as their record fell to 12-34 overall and 7-23 in conference play.

Game 1: ODU 3 UF 1

The Oilers allowed single runs in three innings but, despite a solid pitching effort from Austin Rodesky, dropped the first game of the doubleheader, 3-1.

Ohio Dominican was able to pick up runs in the first, second, and fifth as their lead reached 3-0.

Findlay was able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh inning when Christion Smith reached on an infield single and was pinch ran for by Tyler Donaldson. Donaldson advanced on a walk to Troy Merriman, putting runners on first and second. With one out, Anthony Ondrejczak laced a single to left center, loading the bases. Josh Schwerer then grounded out, driving in the only run of the game for the Oilers.

Leading the offense were Jordan Garcia and Smith, each with a pair of hits.

As a team, the Oilers scored one run on nine hits. They made one error and left five runners on base.

Rodesky (3-6) took the loss on the mound for Findlay as he pitched six innings and allowed three runs on just five hits. He struck out five and walked five.

Game 2: ODU 7 UF 3

The second contest got off to a promising start as Findlay was able to tack three runs on the board in two innings, however Ohio Dominican was able to answer and picked up a pair of three-run innings themselves, ultimately winning the game 7-3.

Inning number three began with a single from Peter Yorgen who then advanced to second on a single from Roman Kuster. Following a strikeout, Cameron Johnson singled to load the bases. Yorgen came in to score on a ground out from Kevin Schrock, putting the Oilers up 1-0 at the time. Miguel Valdez then singled to right center, scoring Kuster and moving Schrock to third. A wild pitch sent Schrock home and put the Oilers up 3-0 after two complete innings.

ODU scored a single run in the third and then put up three runs in the sixth and seventh innings, pushing their lead to 7-3, the eventual final.

Yorgen and Johnson each had a couple of hits in the game while Schrock and Valdez picked up the two RBI's for the Oilers.

Jon Walker (1-8) took the loss on the hill as he pitched six innings, allowed seven runs, six of which were earned, on 12 hits. He struck out six and did not walk a batter.

Findlay will wrap up their season tomorrow as the face ODU in the final doubleheader of the year.
