Findlay Drops DH at Walsh

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

North Canton, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team dropped their record to 8-12 on the season and 1-5 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) after a double-header loss at Walsh University on Tuesday, April 5.

Game 1 (L 4-0) Box Score

Findlay was unable to get the bats going in the first contest of the day as they were held to just one hit, a double in the fourth inning by senior Jordan Garcia.

On the other side, Walsh was able to score single runs in the second and fourth and then got a pair of runs on a home run in the sixth to put the Oilers away by a final of 4-0.

Junior Austin Rodesky took the tough loss on the hill as he pitched the complete game and allowed four runs, two earned, on just three hits. He walked three and struck out six.

Game 2 (L 8-3) Box Score

The Oilers scored their first run of the day in the top of the first inning in the second contest, but it was not enough as the Cavaliers would use a big seventh inning to propel themselves to victory.

In the first, freshman Derrick Herd, who walked with one out, scored on a two-out single from junior Peter Yorgen.

Walsh was able to answer in a big way as they blasted their way to victory. They scored one run in the fourth, a home run from Andrew Stalnaker, who hit the home run in game one. In the bottom of the fifth, the Cavaliers scored two runs on back-to-back home runs, and scored four runs in the seventh, three of which came on a three-run home run.

The rest of the offense from the Orange and Black was too little, too late as they scored one run in each of the final two innings. In the eighth, pinch runner, senior Eric Riha scored on a groundout from Herd, and in the ninth, it was Riha who delivered with an RBI single, scoring junior Kevin Schrock.

The Oilers finished the game with three runs on 11 hits.

Freshman Mark Delas, now 1-2 on the year, took the loss. He pitched 4.2 innings and allowed three runs, all earned, on six hits. He walked three and struck out six.

Cameron Johnson had a good game two as he picked up four hits in the nightcap.

Walsh got a noteworthy day from Andrew Stalnaker who 4-for-5 on the day with three home runs, six runs scored, and five runs batted in.

The Oilers will return home tomorrow, April 6, when they take on Notre Dame (OH) at the Cube. That game will start at 3:00 pm.
