Findlay Drops Two to Wayne State | Look Ahead to Conference Series with Walsh

Detroit, MI- The University of Findlay baseball team traveled up to Detroit Michigan on Tuesday Apr 19 to play two 7 inning non-conference games against the Wayne State University Warriors. Coming into the contest the Oilers were 14-20 on the season and 10-8 in G-MAC (Great Midwest Athletic Conference) play and currently sitting in 6th place in the conference just one game behind the Cedarville Yellow Jackets. 

Wayne State would put up 4 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning with a string of hits and some lucky bounces to take a 4-0 lead after 3 innings of play. 

The Warriors would put up two more runs in the bottom of the 4th inning with another string of walks and hits to give themselves a 6-0 lead. 

It would be a similar story in the bottom of the 5th for Wayne State as they put up another 2 runs extending their lead to 8. 

The Warriors would hit their way into 3 more runs in the bottom of the 6th inning to give them an 11-0 lead and a win in game one.  

Junior Aiden Lao, freshmen Jabin Bates, and junior Cam Farrar would record hits in the game for Findlay. 

Senior Anthony Kyle would start on the mound for the Oilers and throw two complete innings, allowing only one hit while striking out 4 batters. Senior Jordan Bekier would come into pitch next for Findlay throwing one inning, allowing 4 runs, and striking out one batter while picking up the loss. Freshmen Zavier Thornton would throw the next inning allowing two earned runs and striking out one batter. Senior Trey Bame would throw the 5th inning allowing two runs and striking out one batter. Junior Sebastian Jones would pitch the 6th inning for the Oilers allowing 3 earned runs and striking out one batter. 

Senior Ryan O'Malley started game two off big for the Oilers with a solo homerun to center field in the top of the first inning to give Findlay an early 1-0 lead.  

The Warriors would respond with 4 runs of their own in the bottom of the first inning and then turn around and match that plus some with 5 runs in the second. 

The Oilers would battle back in the top of the 3rd inning with a 2 RBI single to left field by O'Malley that would score both freshmen Austin Adelman and sophomore Derek Fay. Later in the inning, senior Tyler Burley would reach first on an error allowing O'Malley and Farrar to score leaving the score at 9-5 in favor of the Warriors. 

The Warriors would extend their lead in the bottom of the third bringing home one more run to make the score 10-5. 

Fay would score on a wild pitch in the top of the 4th inning to bring Findlay to within 4 runs after 3 and a half innings of play. 

Wayne State would plate four runs in the bottom of the 4th to advance their lead to 8 runs.  

Ryan O'Malley would send his second ball over the fence in the top of the 5th inning with another solo homerun, his 7th of the season, to bring the score to 7-14. 

The Oilers would scratch another run across in the 6th inning with a two out RBI double by Lao that would bring Fay home and make the score 8-14. 

Senior Bailey McCord started game two on the mound for the Oilers throwing 1 inning allowing 4 earned runs and striking out two batters. Senior Ryan Mohr would throw .2 innings allowing 4 earned runs. Freshmen Jacob Flaherty would throw next for Findlay. Flaherty would throw 1.1 innings allowing one earned run and striking out two batters. Freshmen Ashton Schroeder would follow Flaherty and throw 1 inning allowing no earned runs and striking out one. Sophomore Logan Bragg would finish on the mound for Findlay, throwing 2 innings allowing no runs and no hits while striking out 3 Warrior batters. 

With the two losses, Findlay drops to 14-22 on the season. The Oilers will be back on the diamond at home at the Cube on Saturday Apr 23 as they take on the Walsh University Cavaliers starting at 1 PM.
