Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Findlay Drops Conference Opener | Falls to TNU

Nashville, Tenn.- The University of Findlay men's basketball team hit the road for their 2023 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opener on Tuesday, Nov. 28. The Oilers suffered a 96-90 defeat at the hands of the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans to fall to 1-4 on the year and 0-1 in the G-MAC. TNU, meanwhile, improves to 4-2 overall and starts the year 1-0 in conference play.

The Trojans made the first basket of the game, a lead they held for the remaining 39 minutes. Trevecca, who had never beaten the Oilers, saw a lead reach a game-high 15 points nearly six minutes into the second half, holding a 57-42 advantage. Despite knocking the Trojan's lead to seven with four minutes remaining in the contest, the home team held the upper hand, giving Findlay their fourth consecutive loss.

Trevecca Nazarene had hot hands on the night, recording 32-0f-62 from the floor to shoot 51.6% in the contest including an impressive 58.62% in the second half. Most notably, the Trojans recorded nineteen made free throws in the second half. Findlay went 35-of-75 from the floor, shooting 46.7% on the night.

Part of Trevecca's impressive play was on the glass where the Trojans finished with a 46-to-26 advantage. The Oilers were haunted by TNU in the paint as the Trojans scored nearly double that of the Oilers, 40-20. Fouls also played a big part in the game as Trevecca connected on 22-of-26 from the charity stripe while holding Findlay to just 3-of-5.

Senior Andrew Owens finished with a career-high 21 points, recording a perfect 7-of-7 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed four rebounds and added two assists.

Sophomore Kahlil Luster also recorded a career-high 17 points on the strength of 7-of-13 from the floor. Senior Joey Edmonds scored eleven while leading the team with seven assists.

Findlay remains on the road with a trip to Owensboro, Kentucky on Saturday for a date with the Panthers of Kentucky Wesleyan College. That game will tip off at 8:45 pm EST.
