Oilers Lose in G-MAC Semifinal at Top-Seeded Northwood

Midland, Michigan - The University of Findlay women's soccer team allowed a pair of second half goals and ultimately came up short in the semifinals of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 9. The Oilers lost the game by a 3-1 final at the hands of the regular season champion and tournament host, the Northwood Timberwolves. That defeat gives the Oilers an 11-5-4 record on the year while Northwood moves on to Saturday's championship game with a 15-3-2 record.

Northwood got the scoring started in the first half when, 26 minutes into the game, Carly Boyd found the back of the net to put the home team ahead 1-0.

Findlay's answer came nearly 20 minutes later when senior Madison Mlsna slotted it home off a pass from junior Ellie Janszen, tying the game at 1-1 in the final minute of the first half.

The first of two second half goals for the Timberwolves came just five minutes into the final frame. Ten minutes later, a foul in the box gave NU a penalty kick, which was converted by Juliana Paoletti, a first-team all-conference pick this season. Paoletti, who scored both second half goals, gave her team a 3-1 lead, one that the Oilers could not overcome.

In the contest, Findlay outshot the Timberwolves 17-to-10 including 11 shots on goal to just five for the home team. Senior Ellie Tischler lead the team with three shots on goal while Mlsna had two.

The G-MAC's Goalkeeper of the Year, senior Kennedy Slovak, took the loss in the pipes, playing all 90 minutes and allowing three goals while collecting two saves.

Eight teams from the Midwest region will continue their season past this weekend's conference tournaments and with the Oilers ranked ninth in the latest poll, their season, in all likelihood, comes to an end after Thursday's defeat. Selections will be made official on Monday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. EST and will be announced during a live video on NCAA.com.
