Detroit, Mich.- The University of Findlay women's basketball team headed north Tuesday, Dec. 19 to face former Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe, Wayne State University. The Oilers, facing ongoing offense troubles, did again tonight, falling by a score of 71-46. With the defeat, Findlay falls to 5-6 on the year while the Warriors improve to 8-2.
The Oilers got behind early, trailing by ten through just six minutes of play. Wayne State's lead swiftly grew over the remainder of the half before ultimately taking a 39-19 advantage into the break.
The Warrior's largest lead came in the third quarter when the home team took a 29 point advantage over the Orange and Black. Wayne State continued to spell trouble as the game would play out with a 25-point deficit.
In the game, Findlay made 18-of-61 (29.5%) from the floor including just 4-of-29 (13.8%) from three-point range while WSU made 27-of-68 (39.7%) while connecting on 10-of-26 (38.5%) from deep. Wayne State''s big advantage came on turnovers in which they turned the Oiler's 16 turnovers into 21 points.Â
The Oilers were led by sophomore Alyssa Ziehler who recorded her second double-double of the season. She poured in 16 points, going 7-of-12 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the charity stripe. She grabbed twelve boards which included six offensive rebounds. She also added two blocks.Â
Freshman MacKenzie Schulz chipped in six points and seven rebounds. Senior Kate Ellis and junior Mckenna Stephens both added five points.
The Oilers will enjoy their holiday break before returning to Croy Physical Education Center where they host Lourdes University for an exhibition matchup on Dec. 30. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 1pm.
