The Game
After dropping the season-opener at the beginning of the month in Donnell Stadium, the Oilers hit the road for three straight games, the first time that has happened in the regular-season in more than ten years. Finally returning home, Findlay has won three straight games and is set to take on another G-MAC unbeated in the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. The game, which will serve as Findlay's Homecoming Game, will kick off at 4:00 pm.
Last season these two teams met in Owensboro, Ky. in a game that served as KWC's Homecoming contest. The Oilers won 44-7.
Coach to Cure MD
College football coaches know how to stick to a game plan and celebrate success along the way, and that's the theme of this year's Coach to Cure MD, the annual charity initiative involving members of the American Football Coaches Association.
Coaches have carried the banner to raise awareness for Duchenne muscular dystrophy (Duchenne)for many years, but this year, they will not just be advocating during Coach to Cure MD; they'll be celebrating. For the first time, the federal government this year approved a gene therapy treatment that could incrementally help millions of young people battling this fatal genetic disorder.
An initiative of Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD), Coach to Cure MD was launched with the American Football Coaches Association in 2008 and now includes the vast majority of major college coaches, and coaches in all divisions.
On Saturday, Findlay will be joined on the field by Luke Fox, a child currently battling MD, who will perform the coin toss.

Findlay Oilers (3-1, 2-0 G-MAC)
2023 Findlay Football Coaching Staff
Findlay is back on track, now winners of three consecutive games and tied for first in the conference through four weeks of the season. Finally returning home after three consecutive road games, the Oilers are primed for an impressive showing as they welcome the Panthers into Donnell Stadium.
Since the Oilers faithful fans last saw him at home, quarterback
Alec Bornhorst has found his rhythm and will lead the charge against the Panthers. In his previous two games, Bornhorst has become the accurate passer that fans had hoped, completing 75% of this throws in the last two weeks combined while only throwing one interception. A threat through the air, Findlay's QB can also run the ball, averaging 5.8 yards per carry and leading the G-MAC with five rushing touchdowns.
The ground game also rides on the back of senior
Brian Benson, who is just 306 yards shy of cracking Findlay's top-five all-time rushing list. With 3,029 yards to date, Benson is sixth among Division II actives in career yards. The Mansfield, Ohio native is coming off of back-to-back 100+ games and has scored three touchdowns combined in the previous two weeks, helping Findlay's offense to 31.5 ppg on the year, second-best in the conference.
Defensively, the story has been Findlay's sophomore linebackers
Romaro Warren Jr. and
Sam Weihrauch. The duo ranks fifth and sixth in the G-MAC in tackles with 33 and 32 tackles, respectively. Warren Jr. has 3.5 TFL while Weihrauch has 5.5, making this combination one that offensive coordinators need built a game plan around.
Last week's big performance on defense, however, came from senior transfer
Quinn Smith. The Cincinnati, Ohio native collected a pair of interceptions against Hillsdale.
About the Opponent – Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers (3-1, 2-0 G-MAC)
A winning team has been a long time coming for the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. The program has had just one winning season since the turn of the century, a 7-4 record in 2014. This year appears different as those around the program are feeling optimistic about what this team can accomplish.
The Panthers showed that they will not back down from anyone, beginning their season with a road trip to Pensacola, Florida to take on the then #7 University of West Florida. That game did end in a loss, but since then, the team from Owensboro, Ky. has rattled off three consecutive wins, most recently an impressive 13-10 victory over perennial G-MAC contender Ohio Dominican. This is KWC's first three-game win streak since 2015.
While the past three contests have ended in wins, they have not been dominating performances and, in fact, KWC is being outscored by an average of three points per game, thanks to a 35-3 loss in the opener. The Panthers' wins include a seven-point win against William Jewell, a three-point win against Walsh, and a three-point win against ODU.
Leading the charge is senior quarterback Christian Arrambide, a two-time G-MAC Athlete of the Week this season, who is now in his third season under center for the Panthers. Arrambide is currently second in the G-MAC with 998 passing yards, completing 63-of-111 passes through three games. He has six touchdown throws, but has had trouble with turnover, tossing five interceptions, three of which came in his most recent game against Ohio Dominican. His best performance of the year came against William Jewell where he completed 20 passes for 499 yards and five touchdowns.
His favorite receiver this year has been redshirt freshman wideout Camden Williams who ranks first in the G-MAC with 395 receiving yards. He is also tied for first in the conference with four touchdown receptions through four weeks. Williams' went off in their win against William Jewell, picking up 254 receiving yards which is second-most in a game all-time at KWC. He also had three touchdowns in the game.
On the other side of the ball, KWC has not been all that stingy, but they have made enough stops in key situations to pick up some wins. The Panthers are fifth in the G-MAC, allowing 360 yards per game and rank sixth, allowing 26.8 points per game.
The leading tackler is senior linebacker Zereoue Johnson who has made 29 stops including two tackles-for-loss and one sack. Senior defensive lineman Bishop Byrd has 28 tackles including 2.5 TFL. KWC's leader in the backfield has been freshman lineman Kajuan Hardesty who has 4.5 tackles-for-loss including 3.5 sacks, both the most on the team.
