Findlay Rolls Past Timberwolves | Bruns and Edmonds Highlight Contest

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's basketball team earned a 85-79 victory on Saturday, Jan. 6 against the Northwood University Timberwolves in Croy Gymnasium. The victory gives the Oilers a 5-8 record on the year with a 2-3 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Timberwolves fall to 3-10 overall and stay winless at 0-5 in the league.

Findlay never trailed in the contest and jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the opening minutes, extending that lead to 27-14 midway through the first half.

The lead continued to build into the second half as the Oilers reached a game-high 17-point advantage at 66-49 with 9:28 to play. Leading by 14 with 1:45 to play, Northwood closed the contest on a 9-1 run to make the final score close, but it was not nearly enough as Findlay came away with the seven-point victory at home.

On the night, Findlay made 33-of-66 (50%) from the floor while holding Northwood to 27-of-70 (39%). Both teams made nine triples. The rebounding battle belonged to the Oilers who held a 45-36 advantage on the glass. Every rebound mattered even more due to the fact that Findlay turned the ball over 20 times, a season-high.

Nathan Bruns led the way for Findlay, scoring 25 points on the night, a season-high and the most points scored in a game since his Feb. of 2020, his freshman campaign, when he scored 29 against Trevecca Nazarene. Bruns also tied for the team lead with ten rebounds ,three assists, and two steals. It was Bruns' first double-double of the season. The fifth-year senior has now moved into the top ten on Findlay's all-time scoring list, now sitting at 1,680 points which moves him into tenth, passing Marc Bishop who scored 1,658 points (1996-99).

Also making history on Saturday was senior Joey Edmonds who scored nine points, all of which came in the second half. Those nine points give Edmonds 1,004 for his career and make him the 52nd player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark.

Sophomore Max Roth had a game full of highlights en route to a 14-point night, a season-high. Six of those points came on dunks, the best of which was an inbound ally-oop from Edmonds that resulted in a bucket and a foul.

Coming off the bench, sophomore Jagger Landers scored 11 points that included a pair of triples while freshman Will Aljancic scored six points and tied Bruns for a team-high ten boards, four of which came on the offensive glass.

The Oilers return to action on Thursday, Jan. 11 with a home game against the Thomas More Saints. That contest will tip at 7:30 pm.
