Findlay Oilers (5-1, 3-1 G-MAC)
2024 Findlay Football Coaching Staff

Findlay has slipped out of the top-25 rankings after spending the past two weeks among the best in the country. The team is still receiving votes in the poll and remains a contender in both the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and Super Region 1. The team has no time to dwell on last week's defeat as it must refocus for what is always a competitive contest against the Panthers.

At 36.5 points per game, the Oilers come into the game with the second-best scoring offense in the league and boast the league's top attack in terms of yards per game at 421.5. Most of those yards come through the air at 296 passing yards per game and, despite some struggles a week ago, UF remains the most efficient offense in the conference with an offensive efficiency rating of 164.2.

Defensively, Findlay is second with a defensive efficiency rating of 108.7 but ranks fourth in yards per game allowed at 324.0.

Quarterback Matthew Rueve has completed 119-of-189 passes this season for a league-leading 1,607 yards and 19 touchdowns, also the most in the conference. Redd Douglas has been one of Rueve's favorite targets as he has at least three receptions in every game this season, gathering a team-high 23 catches for 297 yards. Delon Hurt leads the squad with four touchdown receptions, three of which came two weeks ago at Kentucky Wesleyan.

Jayden Farmer has returned from injury and appears to be back on the right track as he took the bulk of the carries against Ashland last week. Farmer has 57 totes for 275 yards and three scores this season, although Makya Matthews still leads the squad with 73 carries for 380 yards and five touchdowns.

On defense, Christion Stokes leads the team and ranks fourth in the G-MAC with 49 tackles. He also has a team-high three interceptions and ranks second in the league with seven passes defended. Sam Weihrauch has 40 stops and Romaro Warren Jr., who had a team-high 11 tackles last week, has made 35 stops this season.

About the Opponent – Ohio Dominican (2-4, 1-3 G-MAC)

Always a proud program, the Ohio Dominican Panthers have not had the first half of 2024 that they had maybe hoped, but that's not fooling anyone as, much like last week, the records go out the window when UF and ODU meet on the gridiron. The Panthers have lost four games, yes, but two of those have been by one score, including a game on Sep. 14 against Winston-Salem that went to overtime. The Panthers are also in the midst of their toughest stretch of the season during which they are playing the top four teams in the conference in order with Ashland, Tiffin, Findlay, and next week's opponent, Walsh.

As has been the case in the past, the ODU defense is the headline on Saturday. The Panthers rank second in the league allowing just 283 total yards per game and are also second in scoring defense, allowing 17 points per game. In fact, Ohio Dominican leads the G-MAC with just nine offensive touchdowns allowed this season, but have allowed a league-high ten field goals, adopting a bend-don't-break attitude in the red zone. Those nine touchdowns allowed are tied for 11th-best in the country.

The flip side of that coin is that the offense has struggled, ranking last in the league at just 15 points per game and 275 yards of offense per game. Through the air, the Panthers have been middle-of-the-road, picking up 211 yards a game which is sixth-best in the G-MAC. Where the team struggles to move the ball is on the ground where the team picks up just 64 yards, the worst average in the league and seventh-worst in the country out of 159 teams.

Quarterback Drew Gallehue will lead the offense onto the field and, this year, has completed 118-of-188 passes for 1,265 yards and six touchdowns. In his second year of significant time for the Panthers, Gallehue has thrown six interceptions, which has been an area of concern for the junior who has tossed 17 interceptions in his two years as the starter. He has not thrown for a touchdown since Sep. 28 when he threw a for two against Kentucky Wesleyan.

On the ground, Nathan Webster leads the team with 67 carries for 263 yards and three scores and picks up a yard-and-a-half more per carry than the team average which is just 2.4. He and Gallehue, who has two rushing scores, are the only two players on the team who have found the endzone on the ground.

Defensively, Michael Powers is a force, making 52 tackles this season which ranks third in the G-MAC. DeShannon Butler, Brayden Taylor, Gavin Linkous, Jace Schaefer, Qwyn Williams, and Kendal Marshall all have at least 3.0 tackles-for-loss this season and will be chasing after UF players in the backfield.
