Volleyball Concludes Regular Season with Win at Thomas More

Crestview Hills, Ky.- The University of Findlay volleyball team took on the Thomas More University Saints on Saturday, Nov. 16 for what would be the last game of the regular season. Despite splitting the first two sets, the Oilers went on to win by a score of 3-1 (25-14, 22-25, 25-14, 25-9). That victory gives UF a record of 19-8 on the season with an 11-4 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Meanwhile, Thomas More falls to 11-17 on the year with a 5-10 record in the league.

Findlay came out strong in the opening set, scoring four straight points to start the match. The Oilers maintained control throughout, never trailing and securing a dominant 25-14 victory. UF posted an impressive .314 hitting percentage while limiting TMU to just .067.

Thomas More hit .314 in the second set, their highest hitting percentage since Oct. 23. A run of eight straight points gave the home team a 14-10 lead. The Oilers briefly regained the advantage at 18-17, but with the score tied at 22, Thomas More closed with three consecutive points, stealing the second frame.

Findlay returned the favor, taking the third set 25-14 and kept the pressure on in the final frame, winning 25-9.

As a team, the Oilers hit .296 for the match, collecting 58 kills while TMU hit .109 and had 32 kills.

Sophomore Hannah Miller paced the team with 14 kills, adding 13 digs and two service aces. Juniors Kenzie Hoelscher and Alana Pohlman also delivered double-digit kills, tallying 13 and 12, respectively. Hoelscher excelled at the service line, notching a career-high eight aces, tying for the second-most in program history.

Sophomore Abria Lomax and freshman Grace Auer chipped in with nine kills each, with Lomax hitting an impressive .538 and Auer posting a strong .333.


Junior Emma White tallied 54 assists and added 10 digs, while senior Ava Doster led the team in digs with 18.


The Oilers will be back in action for the Great Midwest Volleyball Tournament which will begin Tuesday, Nov. 19. Findlay awaits their fate as the bracket will be released in the coming days.
