Two Late Goals Propel Oilers to Sweet Sixteen

St. Louis, Mo.- The University of Findlay men's soccer team upset the Maryville University Saints by a score of 3-2 on Saturday, Nov. 23. The six-seeded Oilers, who made their first appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship in over two decades used two goals in the final ten minutes of play to propel themselves past the third-seeded Saints.

The Oilers were the first to get on the board as senior Mitchell Hanosh found the back of the goal off an assist from Cooper Solomon in the 28th minute. The Saints responded immediately, netting a goal of their own just one minute later.

With the score tied 1-1 at halftime, Maryville struck early in the second half, taking a one-goal lead with 40 minutes left to play.

As tensions mounted and emotions ran high for the home team the Oilers capitalized on the Saints' lapse in focus. Senior Brendan Ash delivered, first hitting the crossbar before burying the ball in the back of the net to tie the score at 2-2. With less than three minutes remaining, the Oilers found their stride, as senior Maciej Gaszynski netted the game-winning goal off assists from sophomore Oliver Lindstrom and senior Cedrik Rodach.

Findlay's goals came from Hanosh, second team all-conference selection Ash, and Gaszynski. As a team, the Oilers took fifteen shots, eight of which were on goal. Meanwhile, Maryville recorded eighteen shots, six of which were on goal.

Junior Keegan Grant, the Great Midwest Goalkeeper of the Year was dominant in goal for Findlay, recording four crucial saves for the Orange and Black.
