#25 Oilers Eclipse Comets 111-62

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked no. 25 in the country in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Top 25 Poll, took down The University of Olivet Comets on Tuesday, Dec. 17 by a score of 111-62. With today's victory, the Oilers improve to 9-1 overall while Olivet, a Division III team in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), was playing the game as a non-countable exhibition game.

For Findlay, the 49-point win is the largest margin of victory in a game since defeating Carlow by 54 in December of 2019 and is the third 100-point game of this season, already the most 100-point games in a season since 2018-19.

Ten minutes into the contest, the Oilers had built a double-digit lead at 30-19 and the score would not to single-digits for the remainder of the game.

Findlay's lead would eventually reach a high of 53 points at 104-51 as the home team cruised to the win, the team's fifth in a row.

The Oilers shot 43-of-79 (54.4%) from the floor including 17-of-38 (44.7%) from three-point range, the most triple tries by UF this season. Findlay out-muscled the Comets on the glass, as well, winning the rebounding battle 49-to-27 including 18 offensive rebounds leading to 24 second chance points.

Sophomore Will Aljancic led the team with 22 points on 10-of-14 from the floor. He added six rebounds, as well. Off the bench, freshman Steele Meister set a season-high with 18 points including a trio of triples. He also had 11 rebounds giving the Newark, Ohio native his first career double-double.

Sophomore Jake Morrison was on fire from deep, scoring 17 points on the strength of five makes from beyond the three-point arc. He also had three rebounds and two assists. Freshman Ian Ioppolo chipped in with 12 points and five boards.

Rounding out Findlay's double-digit scorers was senior Josh Thorbahn who scored 11 and had five rebounds. Junior Mason Brandt had seven boards to go along with nine points.

Sophomore Anthony Johnson, the nation's leader in assist-to-turnover ratio, continued to be a key distributer as he had a career-high eight assists. Junior Max Roth was next with six.

The Oilers will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 21 with a game against Goshen. That contest will tip off at 3:00 pm.
