Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's basketball team was back in action on Saturday, Dec. 21 in a match-up against Wayne State. In a thrilling come from behind victory, the Oilers defeated the Warriors by a score of 59-56. The Orange and Black have now won five games in a row and have raised their record to 10-3. With the loss, Wayne State now falls to 6-4.
The game got off to a very slow start, as at the five minute mark in the first quarter of play it would be 5-2 Oilers after a three pointer from
Addisyn Freeman. In this quarter, the Warriors would finish 3-13 from the field while the Oilers would be 5-19.
In the next two quarters of play, it would be all Wayne State as they would outscore Findlay 19-10 in the second and 20-13 in the third. The Oilers comeback would start with just over five minutes left in the final quarter of play, as two free throws from
Ella Mescher limited the deficit to just single digits.
With three minutes remaining, a tough bucket and a free throw from
Kate Ellis after a Warrior foul would give the Oilers a one point lead. After two minutes of scoreless basketball, Wayne State would regain the lead with a pair of free throws. This lead would be short lived however as another Ellis make gave Findlay the one point lead right back.
Some crucial rebounds and three free throws from Mescher would put the game on ice and allow the Oilers to come away with the victory. The junior would finish with five points, all coming from the free throw line.
Leading the Oilers on offense were seniors
Kate Ellis and
Chloe Callahan, who would each finish with 13 points. Callahan would shoot 3-4 from beyond the arc and Ellis finished her day going a perfect 5-5 from the charity stripe.
The Oilers will be back in action on Thursday, Jan. 2 when they take on rival Tiffin University. Tip off will be at 5:30 pm.
