Anderson, SC - The University of Findlay baseball team came up shy on Tuesday, Feb. 27 at Anderson University, losing by a score of 20-8 in the nine-inning affair. That defeat gives the Oilers a record of 1-7 on the year while the Trojans improve to 8-6.
Unfortunately for the Orange and Black, the first inning was again an issue. The first six Anderson hitters of the game reached base en route to a 7-0 deficit through one frame. In eight games, Findlay has now been outscored 23-2 in the first inning of play.
A one-out double by senior
Nate Brooks in the fourth inning sent senior
Cam Farrar home, giving the Oilers their first run of the game, but six more runs for the Trojans in the bottom of the fifth made the score 13-1. That would not be all as another seven-run inning came for the home team in the seventh to create a 19-run spread at 20-1.
Those three big innings would be enough as, despite scoring four runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth, Findlay was not able to mount a comeback, falling by a 20-8 final.
Freshman Colin Rouse fell to 0-2 on the hill as he took the loss in his second career start. The New Franklin, Ohio native tossed four innings and allowed ten runs, eight earned, on eight hits. He walked four and struck out two of the 26 batters he faced.
At the plate,
Nate Brooks led the way as he picked up three hits and a walk in three at-bats. He had two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored. Farrar had a pair of hits and two runs scored while sophomore
Ryan Thompson had one hit, a three-run home run in the eighth inning.
Findlay has a day off before beginning their final series of the spring trip. The Oilers will begin a three-game set with Newberry on Thursday, Feb. 29. First pitch is set for 5 pm.
