Findlay Spoils Debut of Hillsdale's New Stadium | Clobbers Chargers in Doubelheader

Hillsdale, Mich. - The University of Findlay baseball team went north for the first Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) series of the year, taking on the Hillsdale College Chargers on Saturday, March 16. The doubleheader marked the first games being played at HC's new Lenda and Glenda Hill Stadium which was completed earlier in the year. The Oilers played spoiler, scoring 31 runs on the day, winning both games by scores of 17-7 and 14-10, respectively. With those wins, Findlay is now 8-8 on the year while Hillsdale falls to 4-11.

Game 1 (W 17-7)
Contrary to what has happened to this point in the season, the Oilers were the aggressor in the first inning, putting up four runs to open the game. The first at-bat in the new stadium belonged to senior Aiden Lao who walked while, two batters later, the first hit recorded went to senior Cam Farrar, a single to right field that scored Lao. In total, Findlay sent seven batters to the plate in the first inning, scoring four runs on two hits and taking advantage of three walks.

Hillsdale's first half inning in their new park did not go well as the Chargers were set down 1-2-3.

Already leading 4-0, the second of three big innings came in the third where Findlay scored six runs on six hits. Sophomore Andrew Williams, freshman Nick Palm, and Lao each had two-RBI hits in the inning to lead the way.

Through eight innings, the OIlers led 12-6. They decided that was not enough and promptly scored five runs in the top of the ninth to end all hope of a Chargers' win. The top of the ninth was highlighted by a two-RBI double by senior Cole Kwiatkowski and back-to-back home runs by sophomore Keelan Daniel and Farrar.

Senior Logan Bragg earned the win on the hill, throwing seven innings and allowing four runs on nine hits. He walked one and struck out five of the 33 batters he faced.

Farrar and Kwiatkowski led the way, each collecting three hits in the game. Farrar had three runs scored and two RBI while Kwiatkowski had a pair of runs and RBI. Lao had a pair of hits, including a solo home run in the sixth, and drove in three runs.

Game 2 (W 14-10)
The second contest got started in a positive way, opening up with a single by Lao. After a fly out, Farrar launched his 36th career home run over the wall in left center to give the Oilers a 2-0 lead. That hit by the Clyde, Ohio native was the 179th of his career, moving him into a tie for fifth on Findlay's all-time hit list.

A Kwiatkowski double and Lao single both sent runs home in the second inning and, one inning later, hits by sophomore Casey Maruniak, senior Andrew Micale, and Kwiatkowski led to three more runs and a 7-1 lead through three frames.

In the fourth, senior Nate Brooks homered to right center and Micale had an RBI single, extending Findlay's lead to 9-4. A four-run fifth made the score 13-4.

Hillsdale made a push for a comeback, scoring the next five runs to cut into the lead, but it was not enough as Findlay went on to a four-run victory.

Lao and Maruniak each had three hits, including a double, in the game. Lao was an on-base machine in the contest as he also had three walks on his ledger. Farrar had one hit, the first inning home run, two runs scored, and led the team with three RBI in the game.
