Softball Splits with Saginaw Valley State

Findlay, Ohio- TThe University of Findlay softball team welcomed former Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) foe Saginaw Valley State University for a double header on Saturday, March 16. The Oilers fell in the first game 6-0 before taking the second by a score of 8-4. The split gives Findlay a 13-9 record on the season while Saginaw Valley moves to 11-8 on the year.

Game One (L 6-0)
Saginaw Valley got ahead early scoring two runs in the first inning and then added one in the fourth and three in the sixth. Findlay's best chances to score came in the fourth and fifth innings, stranding two runners on base in each of those frames.

The Cardinals scored six runs on eleven hits and made two errors. The Oilers were not able to score on their five hits and made just one error.

Taking the loss in the circle for Findlay was sophomore Alexys Antal. She pitched 5.1 innings, giving up seven hits and allowing five runs. She walked three and struck out two. 

Each of Findlay's hits came from a different player, all of which recorded singles.

Game Two (W 8-4)
Both teams got on the board in the first inning, each scoring two runs. Sophomore Alexys Antal picked up her first home run of the year in the second inning which sent home junior Morgan Cherne to put the Oilers ahead by two. 

In the bottom of the third, senior Avery Shepherd delivered with a three-run double to put Findlay ahead by five. Saginaw Valley added one run in the seventh inning but ultimately fell short.

Senior Molly Pfiffner picked up the win in the circle. She pitched the final four innings of relief, allowing two runs on four hit. She struck out two while walking just one. Sophomore Kayla Dykin started for the Orange and Black allowing two runs on one hit. She walked three and struck out two. 

Leading Findlay's offense was Antal who was 2-of-4 at the plate. She scored two runs which included her home run in the second inning. Senior Alissa Davis was 2-of-3 at the dish and recorded two RBI. Shepherd's double came on 1-of-2 from the plate and an impressive three RBI.

The Oilers will be back in action Sunday, March 17 as they begin Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. They will host Northwood at 1pm and 3pm.
