Box Score Indianapolis, Ind. – The University of Findlay baseball team took on the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday, March 19. The Oilers lost the road game by a score of 13-5 and fall to 9-10 on the year while UIndy improves to 12-7.
On a chilly and windy afternoon, Findlay fell victim to a poor start again, as has happened much of the season, a year that has now seen the Orange and Black allow 41 runs in the opening inning.
Senior Aiden Lao singled to start the game, but three consecutive strikeouts ended any threat.
By the time the Oilers would get their first three outs, the game was nearly decided as the Greyhounds sent 15 batters to the plate, forced a pitching change after just one out, and came away from the frame with a 10-0 lead. That inning featured seven walks by Oilers pitching.
It was not until the fourth that Findlay would score. Sophomore Casey Maruniak doubled and stole third, ultimately scoring on a groundout by senior Austin Adelman. Freshman Nick Palm then singled to left, scoring freshman Aiden Booth who walked earlier in the inning.
Already leading 10-2, UIndy scored three more runs to take a 13-2 advantage through five innings of play, essentially putting Tuesday's contest out of reach.
On the hill, sophomore Conner Evanich took the loss as he recorded just a single out of the nine batters he faced. Evanich allowed two hits but walked five and hit a batter, allowing eight runs, seven earned.
Palm and sophomore Ryan Thompson both had a pair of hits in the game. Thompson was the team's leader with two RBI and he also had a run scored which came on a ninth inning home run to center.
Findlay will be back in action on Friday, March 22 when they begin a four-game series at Cedarville University.
