Findlay Takes Two on Day Four of Spring Trip

Winter Haven, Fla.- The University of Findlay's softball team continued play at THE Spring Games, Saturday, March 2. They picked up wins against both Concordia- St. Paul and Goldey Beacom to move to 9-7 on the year.

Game One vs. Concordia- St. Paul (W 10-0)
Findlay got off to a hot start against the team out of Minnesota. Senior Avery Shepherd got the first hit for UF with a single to shortstop. Sophomore Alexys Antal singled through the right side before sophomore Annika Bredel walked to load the bases. Freshman Joslynne Frazier, the reigning Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Athlete of the Week, hit her first career grand slam to put the Oilers ahead 4-0 early.

The contest remained scoreless for the next four innings until the Oilers put two more runs on the board in the top of the sixth. Junior Cassie Warner had a bunt single and then advanced to second on an error. Junior Lainey Bingham sent Warner home on a triple down the right field line. Bingham was later sent home thanks to a single by junior Hannah Baker.

Findlay put away the Golden Bears, scoring four more runs in the top of the seventh to take the 10-0 win.

Frazier led the Oilers' offense, going 1-for-4 with a grand slam in the first inning. Bredel continued her strong hitting, going 2-for-3 with both hits being doubles. Shepherd went 3-for-5, while Bingham, who was 2-for-3, recorded a triple and an RBI.

Picking up the win in the circle was senior Molly Pfiffner. In her first ever seven inning outing, she allowed zero runs on six hits. She struck out three while walking just one. She improves to 2-1 on the year.

Game Two vs. Goldey-Beacom (W 3-1)
The Oilers continued their impressive hitting as they got on the board in the first inning. Sophomore Alexys Antal walked and later advanced to second before taking third due to a wild pitch. Freshman Joslynne Frazier then hit a single up the middle to send Antal home.

Findlay would add another run with the third inning as senior Avery Shepherd singled to right center before advancing to second and ultimately third. Freshman Joslynne Frazier then hit a sacrifice fly to send Shepherd home and pick up her second RBI of the contest.

The Lightning scored their lone run in the top of the fifth but the Oilers answered right back in the bottom scoring one of their own. Antal hit a double to left field and was then sent home by Bredel as the Oilers would go on to win 3-1.
Freshman Joslynne Frazier led the Oilers once again, going 1-for-2 at the plate and recording two RBIs. Antal scored two runs, hitting 1-for-2 with a double. Bredel also hit a double, going 1-for-3 at the plate.

Sophomore Alexys Antal improved to 3-1 on the season after a career-best game in the circle. The Topeka, Ind. native recorded ten strikeouts while allowing one run on six hits.

The Oilers will conclude their Florida trip with contests Sunday, March 3. They face Grand Valley State and Bridgeport at 9am and 11:30am.
