Softball Splits in Tiffin

Tiffin, Ohio- The University of Findlay softball team headed down U.S. Route 224 to take on the Tiffin University Dragons for a double header Sunday, March 24. The Oilers dropped the first game 10-2 before recovering with a 3-2 win in the second. The split gives Findlay a 14-12 record on the season with a 1-3 mark in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC). Meanwhile, the Dragons are now 15-13 overall and 1-3 in league play.

Game One (L 10-2)
The Oilers got on the board in the first inning, thanks to a single by freshman Joslynne Frazier that sent senior Avery Shepherd home. Tiffin would answer right back, putting up two runs of their own to take a 2-1 lead.

Tiffin added three runs in the second inning and one more in both the third and fourth. With the score at 7-1, Findlay's best chance of a comeback was in the top of the fifth. Shepherd led off the Oilers with a triple to right center and was later sent home on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Alexys Antal. However, the inning came to an end with a fly out to center field which left two stranded on base.

In the bottom of the sixth, with the score at 7-2, Tiffin scored three runs to force the run-rule and take the win in game one.

Taking the loss in the circle for Findlay was Antal. She pitched three innings, giving up seven runs on seven hits. She struck out four and walked two. She was later relieved by both sophomores Avery Flynn and Kora Navarro.

Leading Findlay's offense was Shepherd who went two-of-four and scored both of Findlay's runs. She also recorded a triple. Meanwhile, Frazier went three-of-three from the plate.

Game Two (W 3-2)
The Dragons put the first run on the board in the first inning before adding, what would be their final run, in the second.

Findlay didn't get on the board until the fourth when junior Lainey Bingham doubled to left center to send Antal home. With Tiffin ahead 2-1, Findlay was able to make an impact in the top of the fifth. Antal hit a double to center field to send senior Alissa Davis home and tie the contest. Then, junior Hannah Baker sent Antal home with a single through the left side which ultimately proved to be enough to take the 3-2 win.

Starting in the circle for Findlay was junior Emma Jones who threw two innings. She allowed two runs on three hits. Senior Molly Pfiffner picked up the win, throwing the final five innings. She allowed no runs on four hits. Both pitchers struck out two.

Antal led Findlay, going two-of-four from the plate one of which included a double. She also scored two of Findlay's three runs. Baker and Bingham also recorded a double in the contest.

The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow, March 25, as they host Hillsdale College for an afternoon double header. The first pitch will be at 1pm.
