Tiffin, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team concluded their four-game series with the Tiffin Dragons on Thursday, April 18 on the road. The Oilers dropped the series finale, which was played over a span of three different dates, by a 9-4 final. With that defeat, Findlay falls to 20-15 overall with a 14-6 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Dragons improve to 18-21 with a 13-11 record in the league.
Tiffin got ahead early, using a two-run home run in the first inning to take a lead that they would not relinquish. Single runs in the second and third innings made the score 4-0 through three.
Leading off the top of the fourth, Findlay senior Cam Farrar, the Oilers' and Great Midwest all-time home runs leader, did what he has done many times, launching a ball over the wall in left field.
Later in the game, senior Aiden Lao, who has 173 career hits to his credit, drove a ball through the right side, scoring senior Cole Kwiatkowski, making the score 4-2. The very next batter, Farrar, made some history, ripping a ball to left, the 200th hit during his time in the Orange and Black. Farrar is just the third player in program history to reach that milestone, joining Brian Sampsel (211 | 2005-2009) and Rob Talpas (218 | 2001-05).
However, Tiffin scored four unanswered runs to extend their lead to 8-2 through six innings and, despite an RBI single in the seventh by senior Andrew Micale, the Dragons would hold on to their lead and go on to victory.
Sophomore Ethan Mohr started and took the loss, allowing two runs on one hit in the first inning, his only frame of the day.
Farrar reached base in all five plate appearances, going 2-for-2 in the game with three walks. He scored two runs and had one RBI.
Six other players had hits in the game.
Findlay is back in action on Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21 for a four-game set with the Walsh Cavaliers.
