Oilers Sweep KWC in Low-Scoring Affair

Owensboro, Ky.- The University of Findlay's softball team swept Kentucky Wesleyan on Sunday, April 21 to pick up their ninth and tenth consecutive victories over the Panthers.The Oilers cleaned up with wins of 3-0 and 2-1 to pick up two wins against their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) counterpart. With the two wins, Findlay improves to 26-18 on the season with a 13-9 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, Kentucky Wesleyan falls to 16-28 on the year with a 6-16 record in the league. 


Game One (W 3-0)

Findlay put a lone run on the board in the first inning. Senior Avery Shepherd hit a double to left center before later advancing to third. She then scored on a passed ball.

Four innings later, the Oilers would add to their lead in the top of the sixth. Sophomore Annika Bredel recorded a two-RBI single that would give Findlay a 3-0 lead and the eventual win. 

Sophomore Alexys Antal picked up the win in the circle, throwing all seven innings. The reigning G-MAC and NFCA Player of the Week, allowed just two hits in the outing. She struck out four and walked just one. 

Shepherd led the offense for Findlay, going two-of-four from the plate. She scored two runs. Bredel's single was the lone hit of the day for the sophomore but brought in two runs. 

Game Two (W 2-1)
The first four innings were scoreless until Findlay put up the first run in the top of the fifth inning. Sophomore Annika Bredel singled up the middle which sent freshman Anna Jones home. 

The Panthers answered back with a run of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning. The tied score would remain and force extra innings. 

In the top of the ninth, senior Avery Shepherd hit a home run to left center to give Findlay the lead. The Panthers recorded two hits but the Oilers defense proved to be enough, getting three outs and the win. 

Senior Molly Pfiffner picked up her tenth win of the season in the circle after relieving junior Emma Jones. Pfifner allowed two hits and struck out two. 

Sophomores Annika Bredel and Alexys Antal were both 3-for-5 from the plate. Bredel recorded a career-high three stolen bases. Both Bredel and Shepherd recorded an RBI for the Orange and Black.


The Oilers will be back in action as they remain on the road for a doubleheader in Painesville, Ohio. They will face the Lake Erie Storm on April 26.
