Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay baseball team took on the #25 Indianapolis Greyhounds on Wednesday, April 24, a game that ended in a 6-2 loss for the Oilers. That defeat gives Findlay a record of 22-18 on the year while Indianapolis improves to 28-14.
The Oilers got on the board first, using a two-out, bases loaded walk to freshman Luke Senften to take a 1-0 lead through one frame. However, in the top of the third, the Hounds tied it up, using three consecutive bunts to plate a run.
A two-run double in the top of the fifth gave the visiting team a 3-1 lead, but a double off the bat of senior Cole Kwiatkowski was the Oilers' response, pulling the home team within a run at 3-2.
UIndy continued to score, picking up one run in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh. That 6-2 lead would last as the Oilers had just one baserunner in the final three innings of play.
The Oilers finished with two runs on four hits and made three errors while the Greyhounds had six runs on six hits and made one error.
Sophomore Jacob Howard came out of the bullpen and took the loss in relief, throwing one inning and allowing a pair of runs on two hits. Senior William Rouse started the game, throwing three innings and giving up just one run, an unearned run, on no hits.
Senior Aiden Lao led the offense with a pair of hits and a run scored. Kwiatkowski and senior Nate Brooks had the other two hits for the Orange and Black.
The task does not get any easier for the Oilers who will take on another nationally-ranked squad this weekend when #7 Ashland comes to town for a four-game series. Saturday, April 27 at 1:00 pm will be the first pitch of the weekend.
