Softball Concludes Regular Season with Sweep at Ursuline

Pepper Pike, Ohio- The University of Findlay's softball team concluded the regular season today with a double header against Ursuline College. The Oilers dominated from start to finish, sweeping the home team in the opening game 12-1 before closing the evening with a 13-4 win. Findlay improves to 30-18 on the year with a 17-9 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Meanwhile, Ursuline falls to 5-35 on the season and 0-26 in conference play.

Game One (W 12-1)
Findlay got off to a quick start, putting three runs up in the first inning. Junior Cassie Warner walked and later scored on an error which also put sophomore Annika Bredel on first. Bredel then scored thanks to a ground out by senior Alissa Davis. Sophomore Alexys Antal doubled to center field before stealing third and was later sent home by sophomore Lainey Bingham's single to right field. 

The Oilers added two more runs in the top of the second to bring the score to 5-0.

In the top of the third with the bases loaded, sophomore Kayla Dykin reached on a fielder's choice which also scored Bingham. An error allowed another run before Warner sent home the third and final run of the inning. 

The Arrows put their lone run on the board in the bottom of the fourth.

Findlay then added four more runs in the top of the fifth to force the run-rule and take the 12-1 win. 

Junior Emma Jones picked up the win in the circle, throwing four innings. She allowed just one hit and one run. She struck out three and walked just one. Relieving Jones was sophomore Kora Navarro who tossed the final inning. She allowed one hit. 

Antal led the way for the offense, recording two hits in three at-bats with two RBI. Bingham 2-for-2 from the plate with an RBI. Including Antal and Bingham, nine Oilers recorded at least one hit in the contest. 

Game Two (W 13-4)
The Oilers once again got on the board first putting up a single run in the first inning. They added five more runs in the top of the second and four in the top of the third to bring the score to 10-0.

In the top of the fourth freshman Anna Jones hit the first home run of her career to put the Oilers ahead by eleven. Junior Morgan Cherne then singled to right field before advancing to third on an error. A single by senior Meghan Burke then sent Cherne home. Sophomore Rhyli Pope then singled to center field to send Frazier home who reached base on an error.

Ursuline was able to put four runs on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning but it wasn't enough as the Oilers would force another run rule win, this time with a score of 13-4.

Picking up the win in the circle was sophomore Kayla Dykin who threw for three innings. She gave up four runs on five hits. She struck out two. Senior Molly Pfiffner started the contest, pitching the first two innings. She allowed just two hits and gave up no runs. She struck out two.

Junior Cassie Warner, sophomore Alexys Antal, sophomore Lainey Bingham, and junior Hannah Baker all recorded doubles in the contest. Jones was the lone home run in the game. Eleven different Oilers recorded one or more hit. 

The Oilers have officially secured their place in the Great Midwest Softball Tournament and are now awaiting seeding and scheduling.The tournament will be hosted in Akron, Ohio at Firestone Stadium, May 1-4.
