Lacrosse Falls in G-MAC Championship

North Canton, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team suffered a tough 12-11 to the Walsh University Cavaliers in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship. The loss ends the Oilers season as they finish the year with a 12-7 record on the season with a 6-1 mark in the league. This season's twelve wins represent the highest number of wins since 2018. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers end their season with a 12-5 record and a 7-0 mark in the conference.

Walsh, who entered the game as the heavy favorites and the three-time defending conference champions, took a dominant 16-9 win over the Oilers in the regular season. However, Findlay put up a fight, taking control of the game earlier.

Despite a slow start with low scoring in the first quarter, Findlay managed to secure a two-goal lead by halftime. Walsh was able to tie the game by the end of the third quarter at 8-8.

Findlay opened the fourth quarter with three goals within the first three minutes to take a three goal advantage. However, the Cavaliers answered right back, scoring three straight. With the score tied at 11-11 a goal by Walsh in the sixth minute would ultimately secure the win for the Maroon and Gold.

Leading the offense for Findlay was sophomore Tessa Chuba. The G-MAC Attacker of the Year, as announced earlier this week, recorded three goals. She also led the team with six ground balls and four draw controls. With her three goals today, Chuba officially became the ninth member of the 100 Goal Club. She joins the likes of Sarah Lankton (262), Kyra Bradley (237), Ciara Burud (199), Danielle Dilorenzo (156), Olivia Sherman (144), Mackenzie Barnwell (121), Brie Caruso (120), and Hannah Peebles (103).

Seniors Madeline Shewbridge and Izzy Murphy-Morrow both recorded two goals for the Orange and Black.

Defensively, freshman Karissa Allbright and senior Kaylee Ellis both forced two turnovers. Ellis also recorded four ground balls.

Senior Olivia Bakowski played all 60 minutes in goal for Findlay. She recorded seven saves.

The Oilers had a trio of players named to the 2024 All-Tournament Team as Tessa Chuba, Madeline Shewbridge, and Olivia Bakowski were all named.
