Ziehler Records Third Consecutive Double Double to Lead Oilers to Win at Ursuline

Pepper Pike, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team hit the road on Thursday, Jan. 30 for a game against Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opponent, the Ursuline College Arrows. Findlay started slow, hitting just 5-of-18 shots in the first quarter. However, despite the offensive struggle, a 9-3 run to close the first ten minutes kept the Orange and Black in the game, trailing by just five after one.

A three-pointer by senior Chloe Callahan midway through the second quarter put the Oilers in front 25-23, their first lead since scoring the first points of the game. Ursuline battled back and would end the half in front 30-28 as neither team was able to score in the final two minutes of play.

With four minutes left in the third quarter and a one-point lead, the Oilers went on an 8-4 run that lasted just under three minutes. During this stretch, Findlay capitalized on two turnovers forced from Ursuline. The Oilers shot 2-of-4 from the field, highlighted by a three-pointer from sophomore MacKenzie Schulz, giving them a seven-point lead. However, the home team battled back, closing the gap to just two by the end of the quarter.

Ultimately the fourth quarter belonged to UF as they outscore Ursuline 15-9 to pick up a 67-59 victory.

As a team, the Oilers shot 22-of-56 (39.3%) on the night, including 10-of-22 (45.5%) from beyond the arc—marking the seventh time this season they've hit 10 or more three-pointers in a game. Ursuline finished 21-of-53 (39.6%) from the field and 8-of-19 (42.1%) from three-point range. At the free-throw line, Findlay had the edge, making 13-of-18 attempts, while Ursuline connected on 9-of-11 (81.8%).

Leading the way for the Oilers was junior Alyssa Ziehler who recorded her third consecutive double double. The Clinton, Ohio native recorded 14 points and ten rebounds. She was 6-of-9 from the floor and 2-of-4 from the charity stripe. She also topped the team with three assists.

Senior Chloe Callahan stayed hot from three, sinking all 12 of her points from beyond the arc. She also pulled down four rebounds and recorded two assists.

Kate Ellis rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points, marking her 17th consecutive game in double figures.

The Oilers will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 1 as they welcome the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets to Croy Gymnasium for G-MAC matchup. That game will tipoff at 1:00pm.
