Volleyball Falls in Five-Set Thriller to Hillsdale in Regular-Season Finale

Findlay, Ohio — In a packed Croy Physical Education Center, the University of Findlay Volleyball Team closed its regular season with a hard-fought 3–2 defeat to Hillsdale on Saturday, November 15. The loss moves the Oilers to 22–4 overall and 13–2 in G-MAC play heading into postseason competition.

Hillsdale opened the match with early momentum, taking the first two sets 25–17 and 25–16 behind efficient hitting and steady defensive play.

Findlay responded with grit, regrouping in the third set to deliver their most dominant offensive frame of the day, hitting .362 with 22 kills to claim a 25–21 win.

The Oilers carried that energy into the fourth, earning another 25–21 victory to force a decisive fifth set. In the end, Hillsdale capitalized late, edging out the final frame 15–12 to secure the match.

Despite the loss, Findlay posted a strong offensive performance with 67 kills and a .229 team hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Makenna Belcher paced the Oilers with a match-high 23 kills on .308 hitting while adding 17 digs and 23 total points.

Senior Lauren Foerster followed closely with 17 kills and 19 points, and sophomore Grace Auer contributed 14 kills, an ace, and 16 points in the balanced attack.

At the helm of the offense, senior setter Emma White delivered a standout outing, distributing 56 assists and collecting 12 digs along with a service ace.

Defensively, junior Hannah Miller anchored the back row with 18 digs, while senior Alana Pohlman added eight kills, a block, and nine points during her five-set performance.

Freshman Victoria Mescher led the blocking effort with four total blocks, while several Oilers added key touches at the net during the team's late-match push.

Hillsdale, now 13–11 overall and 11–4 in G-MAC play, was powered by 21 kills from Ellie Fles and a strong blocking presence that finished with 14 team blocks—an edge that proved pivotal in the match's key moments.

With the regular season now complete, the Oilers turn their focus to the G-MAC Tournament, where they look to translate Saturday's rallying effort into postseason success on November 18th in the quarterfinals.
