Findlay, Ohio - After putting together the most successful regular-season in the NCAA era of the program, the University of Findlay football team is headed to the postseason for a third time. The Oilers, which earned the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) automatic qualifying spot with a tiebreaker over co-conference champ Ashland University, gathered together in the Davis Street Building on campus to watch the NCAA Division II Selection Show and see they would take on in the first round.
Announced shortly after 6:00 pm, Findlay stayed at No. 2 in the ranking where it had been in each of the previous two editions of the ranking. With each of the top four seeds earning a home playoff game, the Oilers, ranked No. 8 in the country in the most recent American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Top-25 Poll, will welcome the Minnesota State University Mavericks to Donnell Stadium on Nov. 22. Minnesota State, ranked No. 14 in the country, finished the year with an 8-3 record and calls the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) home.
This is the third time that the Oilers have earned a trip to the postseason since joining NCAA Division II. The first came in 2017 when Findlay went on the road and defeated No. 2 Shepherd University 29-17 before coming up shy against No. 15 Assumption University in the Super Region I semifinals. Findlay's second trip came in 2021, going on the road to No. 8 Shepherd and dropping a close 38-31 ballgame.
Findlay is one of three teams from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) to be selected to the playoffs, the most in conference history. Joining Findlay is Ashland, which earned the fourth seed, and Northwood University, which is unseeded.
