Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

#23 Oilers Rally to Win by One at Quincy

Quincy, Ill. — The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked No. 23 in the country, overcame an early deficit and pulled out a 75-74 win over Quincy on Saturday to improve to 2-0 on the season. Quincy dropped to 1-1.

Quincy jumped out to a 12-point lead midway through the first half, but Findlay responded with a strong surge, closing on a 7-0 run to take a 42-40 lead into halftime. The Oilers' bench provided a spark, and second-chance points helped flip the momentum after the slow start.

The second half featured four lead changes and three ties. Findlay built its largest lead at 56-46 with 13:45 remaining, but Quincy rallied and briefly went ahead 74-73 in the final minute. Senior Mekhi Elmore delivered the decisive blow, driving for a layup with 13 seconds left to put Findlay back in front. Nine seconds later, Elmore stole the ball to seal the victory. He finished with 15 points and three steals.

Findlay scored 40 points in the paint and turned 20 Quincy turnovers into 20 points. The Oilers shot 43.7 percent from the field and hit nine 3-pointers, while Quincy shot 44.3 percent and made six threes.

Senior Jagger Landers scored six points and grabbed six rebounds while sophomore Steele Meister added eight points, three assists and three steals off the bench.  Senior Anthony Johnson, chipped in with nine points and senior Josh Thorbahn also scored nine points and hit a key 3-pointer during the first-half rally.

Findlay returns home next week for its first game at Croy Gymnasium, a contest against Ferris State University. That game tips at 7:00 pm.
