#23 Oilers Stumble Versus #22 Golden Knights in Ranked Meeting

Findlay, Ohio — The University of Findlay men's basketball team (3–1, 0–0 G-MAC) suffered its first setback of the season on Saturday, Nov. 22, falling 101–79 to an undefeated Gannon University squad (3–0) inside the Croy Physical Education Center. The Oilers battled through strong stretches on both ends of the floor, but Gannon's high-efficiency shooting and relentless transition pressure ultimately proved too much to overcome.

Gannon set the tone early with one of its most productive opening halves of the season, shooting 58.8% from the field and 40% from behind the arc in the first 20 minutes.

A deep three from senior Josh Thorbahn pulled Findlay within 16–14 and provided early momentum, but the Knights responded with a pivotal 15–2 run that pushed their lead to 31–16.

That surge held for the remainder of the half, sending Findlay into the locker room trailing 49–33.

Despite the deficit, Findlay received a major spark from its bench, which combined for 40 points and outperformed the Gannon reserves. The group delivered important minutes throughout the second half, helping fuel several Oiler rallies.

Senior Mason Brandt paced the Oilers with 13 points on an efficient 6-of-9 shooting effort while adding two steals, continuing to be one of Findlay's most dependable offensive contributors.

Junior Anthony Johnson chipped in 12 points and was steady at the stripe, converting 7-of-8 free throws. Senior Luke Denbow scored eight points, connecting on a three and creating additional scoring chances by attacking off the dribble.

Josh Thorbahn matched Denbow with eight points of his own, highlighted by a pair of early three-pointers that energized the Oiler offense. Sophomore Steele Meister added six points and pulled down a team-best six rebounds, bringing toughness in the post and limiting second-chance opportunities.

Findlay held its own on the boards, trailing just 47–34, but struggled with turnovers. Gannon capitalized on 20 Oiler giveaways, converting them into 23 points—many coming in transition and disrupting Findlay's attempts to close the gap.

The Oilers will look to regroup as they continue nonconference action at home on Tuesday, Nov. 25, when they host Wayne State at 7 p.m.
