Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's basketball team turned a competitive game into a convincing win with a strong second-half performance, defeating Northwood 93–81 on Saturday, December 13th, inside Croy Physical Education Center. With the win, Findlay improves to 8–2 overall and 3–1 in G-MAC play. Northwood drops to 6–4 overall and 2–2 in conference action.
The Oilers set the tone early, opening the game on a 9–2 run and shooting over 55 percent from the field in the first 10 minutes. Findlay maintained control throughout the opening half, building a double-digit lead before taking a 45–37 advantage into halftime.
The Oilers scored 32 points in the paint in the first half alone while limiting Northwood to just 38.5 percent shooting.
Northwood attempted to swing momentum early in the second half, cutting the deficit to five points, but Findlay responded with an 11–2 run sparked by back-to-back baskets from senior
Mason Brandt and a three-pointer from junior
Anthony Johnson.
The Oilers continued to push the pace, forcing turnovers and converting them into transition points to keep the Timberwolves at arm's length.
Findlay finished the second half shooting 54.2 percent from the floor and outscored Northwood 48–44 over the final 20 minutes. The Oilers continued to dominate inside, scoring 32 points in the paint in the second half alone and pulling down eight offensive rebounds that led to 14 second-chance points.
Findlay shot 50.7 percent from the field for the game and finished with a commanding 64 points in the paint and 25 second-chance points. The Oilers also won the rebounding battle 36–31 and forced 18 Northwood turnovers, which they converted into 26 points.
Senior
Mason Brandt led the way with a double-double, finishing with 16 points and 11 rebounds, including five offensive boards. Junior
Anthony Johnson filled the stat sheet with 13 points, six assists, and two steals, while seniors
Mekhi Elmore and
Jagger Landers each added 11 points. Sophomore
Alex Kendall provided a spark off the bench with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
The Oilers will be back in action on Thursday, December 18th, hosting the Walsh Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m.
