Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team put together a strong effort for much of the contest but was unable to withstand a late push from Northwood, falling 72–61 on Saturday, December 13th, inside Croy Physical Education Center. The Oilers move to 4–5 overall and 1–3 in G-MAC play, while the Timberwolves improve to 8–2 overall and remain unbeaten in conference action at 4–0.
Findlay set the tone early, taking a 14–12 lead after the opening quarter and carrying that momentum into halftime with a 29–24 advantage. The Oilers shot 54.5 percent from the field in the first quarter and won the rebounding battle early.
Northwood answered in the third quarter, using an uptempo attack to shift momentum. Despite Findlay shooting 61.5 percent from the floor in the period and knocking down three triples, Northwood outscored the Oilers 26–20 to take a narrow lead entering the fourth quarter.
The Oilers continued to compete in the final period, but Northwood capitalized on turnovers and second-chance opportunities to pull away late. Findlay was limited to 12 points in the fourth quarter, while Northwood converted turnovers into points to close the game on a decisive run.
Senior
Alyssa Ziehler led the Oilers with a double-double, finishing with 16 points and 15 rebounds, including four offensive boards.
Junior
MacKenzie Schulz also scored 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, while junior
Taylor Stanley added 10 points and two three-pointers.
Findlay finished the game shooting 47.2 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from beyond the arc, out rebounding Northwood 35–29. However, 25 turnovers led to key scoring opportunities for the Timberwolves and proved to be the difference.
The Oilers return to action on Tuesday, December 16th, when they travel to Indianapolis, Ind., to face the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds at 6 pm.
