Woods' Hot Day Leads UF in Double Header | Oilers Take Two from UIS

Westfield, Ind. - The University of Findlay softball team picked up two wins on Monday, Feb. 24 against the University of Illinois-Springfield at a neutral site, Grand Park in Westfield, Indiana. The Oilers won easily in the opener, securing a 14-9 win in an offensive slugfest before stealing the nightcap with a 10-9 walkoff win.

Game 1
In the opener, UIS took a lead in the first inning, but a second inning inside-the-park home run by Anna Jones tied the game up. The following inning, a three-run blast by freshman Meghan Heinsman put the Oilers in front for good.

The third inning was a big on as the Oilers would plate nine runs, holding a 10-1 lead after the dust had settled.

The Prairie Stars mounted a bit of a comeback, scoring the final four runs of the game, but it was too-little, too-late as UF claimed the victory in Game 1.

Game 2
The nightcap was a thriller and was a game that the Oilers looked like they may win in a run rule. Through two innings, Findlay jumped out to a 7-0 lead. Four of those runs came in the second inning on an inside-the-park grand slam for freshman Kenzie Woods, who finished the day with eight hits, five of which came in Game 1.

UIS clawed its' way back, eventually pulling to within a run at 7-6 on an inside-the-park grand slam of their own from their leadoff hitter, Ella Brinkley.

In the seventh, the Prairie Stars took the lead, but as she had done all day, Findlay's Kenzie Woods delivered. With no outs and runners on first and second, Woods ripped a ball to left field, ending the game with a walkoff triple.

Quick Stats
Emma Jones improved to 2-1 on the year, earning the win in the opener. She tossed six innings and allowed eight runs on 11 hits. Alexys Antal, who entered the game in the fifth inning of Game 2, was the beneficiary of Woods' late-game heroics, giving Antal the win and moving her record to 2-0 in the circle. Kora Navarro started that game and threw 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on six hits.

At the plate, Kenzie Woods had a day to remember. On the day, she was 8-for-10 with two triples, a grand slam, and five singles. She also finished with four runs scored and eight RBI, seven of which came in Game 2.

Annika Bredel had four hits, three runs scored, and two RBI while Kora Navarro had four hits, including a double and a triple in Game 1, four RBI, and a run scored.
