Canton, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's basketball team, ranked no. 13 in the country, took down the Malone University Pioneers on the road on Saturday, Feb. 8 by a score of 68-52, the fewest points scored by the Orange and Black this season. That victory gives the Oilers a 20-3 record overall with a 13-2 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while Malone falls to 9-13 (5-9 G-MAC).
For Findlay, it is the first 20-win season since 2019-20 and is the most conference wins recorded since 2020-21.
The Oilers got behind in the first five minutes of play, scoring just five points in the first five minutes of play. An 11-0 run midway through the first half put UF in front for the first time at 16-15 with 6:56 to play in the half.
That lead would balloon to 33-26 at halftime.
Findlay dominated in the second half, slowly building what would turn into an 18-point advantage.
UF, which remains in first place in the G-MAC with the win, made 25-of-51 (49%) from the floor while holding Malone to 22-of-59 (37%) including just 5-of-22 (23%) from three-point range. Findlay hit seven triples and made 11 free-throws.
Junior Mekhi Elmore led the Oilers with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting. He also grabbed four rebounds and had two steals. Sophomore Will Aljancic scored 12 points and led the team with seven rebounds while sophomore Anthony Johnson also scored 12.
Findlay now returns home for its' final three regular-season home games of the season, beginning with a contest on Tuesday, Feb. 11 against the Ohio Dominican Panthers. That game will tip off at 7:30 pm in Croy Gymnasium.
