Softball Sweeps Ashland | Win Streak to Four

Ashland, Ohio - The University of Findlay softball team was back in action on Saturday, Apr. 26 for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) doubleheader against Ashland University.  With the regular season winding down, the Oilers took two huge victories in a pair of very tightly contested ball games.  With the sweep, the Oilers now stand at 31-11 overall and 18-4 in conference play.  For Coach Lowe and her squad, this is the fourth straight year in which the 30-win mark has been surpassed.

Game 1 (9-7)
In the first game of the day, the Oilers came out firing on offense.  Getting things going immediately in the top of the first was Joslynne Frazier, who blasted a two out solo shot over the fence in center for her sixth of the year, also giving them a 1-0 lead.  Findlay would not stop there, expanding their lead to 6-0 after two runs in the second and three in the third.  RBI doubles from Kaitlynn Briggs and Kora Navarro would play a large role in this offensive explosion.

The Eagles would not back down, however, scoring three runs in the bottom half of the third to cut the lead in half.  After adding one on a wild pitch in the fourth, the Oilers would score two more big insurance runs in the top of the sixth thanks to an RBI double from Annika Bredel and an RBI single from Frazier.

Those two runs would prove to be the difference, as a last inning rally allowed the Eagles to put four runs on the board but ultimately fall short by a score of 7-9.

Frazier would lead the offense, recording two hits, two RBIS, and two runs scored in the game.  Also recording two hits on the day was Aurora Lescody, Kaitlynn Briggs and Kenzie Woods.

Alexys Antal would earn the victory in the circle for the Oilers, as she would pitch a complete game and record four strikeouts on the day.  Working around the late inning rally from Ashland, Antal has pushed her record to 6-4 on the year.

Game 2 (4-3)
In the second game of the day, it would be Ashland who would get on the board first, adding two early runs in the bottom of the second to make it 2-0.  Findlay would finally crack the scoreboard in the top of the fourth, when once more Joslynne Frazier left the yard with a solo shot to cut the deficit in half.

The Oilers would tie the game in the top of the fifth with a Kenzie Woods RBI single, but the Eagles would take the lead right back in the bottom half of the inning to make it 3-2.

Working around an Ashland leadoff triple in the bottom of the sixth, the game remained at 3-2 in favor of the Eagles heading into the last inning.  After two quick fly outs, the Oilers were down to their last chance, still down a run.  After an Anna Jones double, Bredel would then come up with a huge double of her own to time the game at three.  In a wild sequence, Bredel would reach third on a wild pitch and then score on a passed ball, giving the Oilers a 4-3 lead.

Shutting the door was Kayla Dykin, who threw the last 2.1 innings of the ball game on her way to securing her team leading 13th victory of the year.  She would allow no runs on four hits, also recording a strikeout.
